The Sustainable Urban and Regional Development Program (SURGE) is a global umbrella program that supports developing countries to foster green, resilient and inclusive urban and regional development. It functions as an overarching funding vehicle for partnerships in which the World ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵAPP and partners work together towards sustainable and inclusive urban and regional development.
The SURGE Umbrella Program supports five country programs in Bolivia, Peru, Serbia, South Africa, and Indonesia. Programs in Bolivia, Peru, Serbia, and South Africa began in 2020 and the program in Indonesia began in 2022.
SURGE brings the programs together under a single umbrella where they all contribute to achieving the same shared development objective: to enable cities and regions in developing countries to function as drivers of sustainable and inclusive economic development.
SURGE is a flexible program and it is open to discuss geographic and thematic priorities of its current and new development partners.
